COVID-19 Screener & Emergency Response Assistant (SERA)

Doing our part

The novel coronavirus has already dramatically altered the lives of millions of people around the world. Provider contact centers and facilities are getting deluged with concerned people in need of information, screening or care. 

To do our part, GYANT has partnered with Blue Shield of California to bring an easy-to-deploy COVID-19 Screener and Emergency Response Assistant to all hospitals in California.  This advanced virtual assistant can be quickly deployed to any website to provide patients with curated CDC/WHO educational content, as well as a virtual triage option to assess their risk. 

As part of the collaboration with Blue Shield of California, all California hospitals will be offered to use the virtual assistant at no charge until June 30, 2020.

How it works

The virtual assistant works on desktop and mobile browsers to provide access for the vast majority of the patient population. It engages patients via chat and provides options to learn about COVID-19 topics and/or perform a virtual screening. The screening involves asking 10-15 questions covering relevant clinical features and risk factors as per CDC guidelines. The entire process takes about 2-3 minutes.

The assistant then routes triaged patients to the appropriate telehealth, nurseline or physical facilities for testing and treatment.  The care endpoints are configurable for each hospital and require no IT or EMR integration.  

Helping you manage the crisis

By offering a digital channel to handle patient education and screening, we hope to relieve some of the strain on health system resources by reducing non-critical phone calls and directing patients to the best resource.

Low acuity cases can be redirected to more appropriate care settings, incl. self-care at home, to support ED and urgent care clinic decompression. The CDC/WHO-sourced curated content and continuously updated library of answers to common questions around COVID-19 provide a reliable source of information for patients affected by or at risk for the disease.

Configuration

The virtual triage module leads patients to one of 9 pre-defined care endpoints (from “Call 911 now” all the way to “Apply self-care at home”).

As part of our self-onboarding process, you will have the ability to modify the specific language for each of the 9 care endpoints via our configuration form. Each of these can include links to your hospital-specific resources, websites or phone numbers.

During the week of March 23, 2020, GYANT will release a self-service configuration tool which will allow your admin users to configure and update the care endpoints as well as color-scheme and branding.

Technical Deployment

The virtual assistant is deployed on your website via a simple JavaScript include, which requires minimal effort of your IT team. The assistant is cloud-hosted by GYANT on AWS servers in the United States. EMR or other integrations are not required. You will receive an integration guide and the relevant JavaScript code snippet within 24-36 hours after onboarding.

Contracting

To speed up the contracting process, we have developed a simplified MSA, SOW, and BAA. Our Contracting Team will send you these documents for review and then issue a Docusign request to your authorized signatory to execute the agreements expediently. Security and risk assessment information are available in a standardized security questionnaire.

2. You will receive an intake questionnaire to capture the relevant information to configure the COVID-19 assistant for your organization.

3. You will receive our simplified MSA, SOW and BAA for review as well as a DocuSign request to your authorized signatory to speed up execution of the agreements.

4. Within 24-36 hours of receiving your intake questionnaire back from you, we will instantiate your COVID-19 SERA and send you the code along with an integration guide.

5. Your web team implements the JavaScript code on your website. Done.
