At GYANT, our mission is to make people better. We value diverse perspectives, candid feedback, and we’re excited to show off the people who work passionately toward our mission and embody our values.
GYANT is a nimble, multi-cultural, and cross-disciplinary team where each member is an expert in their discipline. We’ll be doing a Q&A with one of our extraordinary team members to show off the people behind the product.
Rohan Bhandari joined GYANT in 2018 as a Senior Data Scientist. Now as Head of Data Science, his experience in machine learning and doctorate in physics help our team continuously improve the technology that serves as a powerful force behind the scenes to make people better.
Let’s get to know Rohan a little bit more, shall we?
What attracted you to GYANT? What do you love about working at GYANT?
I joined GYANT because it was a way to apply all of the recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence to helping people in a meaningful way.
I love that everyone is motivated to simply make the best product and experience for our users that we can. It makes the work environment very collaborative and everyone is willing to go above and beyond to help one another out.

What’s your favorite GYANT value and why?
Meritocracy of ideas. Obviously, as a “data guy” I can appreciate that we emphasize making decisions based on objective criteria. More than that, though, I love that it instills a culture where anyone can speak up and contribute, even if it’s not their area of focus. It’s great to be heard in those settings, and it’s great to hear new perspectives from others.
Where are you from?
Born and raised in New Jersey.
What’s your favorite snack while working from home?
Dried mangoes.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I like to play tennis, go camping, and check out local breweries with friends. I’ve also been learning woodworking, which has been a nice way to take a break from sitting in front the computer and instead getting to work with my hands. It’s really rewarding to see someone using something you built.

If you weren’t in your current role, what do you think you’d be doing?
In my previous life I was a particle physicist, so I’d probably be working through the professorship gauntlet right now.
Have you picked up any new hobbies or interests during the pandemic?
One thing I’ve been spending a lot of time with recently is diapers! My wife and I recently had our first child, so it’s been a whirlwind of diaper changes, swaddles, and little sleep. It’s been a wonderful experience so far (especially thanks to GYANT’s 3-month parental leave!) watching him grow up and change even over just a few months.
What’s something cool that you’ve read, watched, or listened to recently?
I’ve gotten into British crime dramas recently. The character-driven, slow burn stories are addicting! If you’re looking for a recommendation, I highly suggest “Broadchurch” (the UK version).
